Lakewood is an architecturally significant area encompassing popular neighborhoods and subdivisions such as Wilshire Heights, University Terrace, University Meadows, Ridgewood Park, Lakewood Trails, Lakewood Heights, Hillside, Gastonwood-Coronado Hills, and Caruth Terrace, among many others. Lakewood Proper is the largest of all the Lakewood area communities. The greater Lakewood area is east of Downtown Dallas and Old East Dallas, west of White Rock Lake, and comprises several square miles. It is a community with easy access to the entertainment districts of Deep Ellum and Lower Greenville and has been ranked as one of the top ten best big-city neighborhoods in the country by CNN. There are roughly two thousand, nine hundred homes in Lakewood, and most of the original homes in Lakewood Proper were constructed in the 1920s and 1930s. That said, many original Lakewood properties have been demolished and replaced with larger, more modern homes. Because of this, the Lakewood real estate market includes both new construction and historic homes, too.

Homes for sale in Lakewood include a wide array of single-family residences in varied architectural styles. There are stunning Colonial, Spanish, Mediterranean, Tudors, Prairie-style, Mid-Century Modern, and Ranch homes in Lakewood. Lakewood homes typically range in size from around two thousand, three hundred square feet of living space to well over five thousand square feet. Lots in Lakewood also vary in size, ranging from a tenth of an acre to well over two acres, with the average being roughly one-quarter acre. Usually, the restored older homes are smaller, while the new construction in Lakewood is larger. However, in the Lakewood Conservation District in south Lakewood, you will find the largest of Lakewood’s older homes.
